Dog's Best Friend is an exciting up tempo contemporary blues trio. Dog's Best Friend (DBF) performs songs that are recognizable and danceable by the average night club audience. Unfortunately, many patrons are seen just coming in to watch and listen to this band play. DBF interprets songs from Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy through Clapton and Hendrix on to modern blues masters Tab Benoit and Stevie Ray Vaughan. The songs showcase over 70 years of combined professional experience. Ted Galloway of Shakedown Street jumped on stage telling a recent audience that this was the best band he's seen around Colorado Springs in the last 5 years.

Dog's Best Friend was organized in late 1996 when the members of DBF began rehearsing and performing at private parties and in local bars. DBF members have also been seen showing up at the local blues, rock and jazz jams for several years. DBF continues to win over new fans at each of its shows and has packed as manay as 2000 people into private parties around town. Many fans receive the DBF upcoming gig date announcements via e-mail.

The members of this exciting band are Paul Schultz, Jim Utt, Mikel Nelson, and Bob Henderson.

Paul Schultz provides Dog's Best Friend with the searing lead guitar that displays the influences of the guitar greats mixed with his own style. Paul began playing in the New York and Boston areas which provided a we alth of musical experiences. Mikel 'Jockamo' Nelson provides a solid and lyrical bass line to the DBF material. He as brings his Cajun "Squeeze Box" to the stage. Mikel honed his already mature skills in the L.A. music scene and has been very active in the local Colorado Springs music business. Mikel is also currently playing with the local Colorado Springs Contemporary Jazz Band. He has previously played with local orchestra, bluegrass, rock, and theater show bands. Jim Utt on percussion provides the kick and counter-point. Jim has been playing drums on stage since his childhood. With nearly 35 years of experience Jim has played blues, rock, dixieland, and jazz professionally. Locally, Jim playted with the Blues Alert band in the early 90's as well as other bands before that. These three individuals provide a solid msical experience that already has a strong local following. Bob Henderson, in addition to managing the band, provides the sound engineering and does a few tunes each night with the band from his 25 years of performing experience.

Past members:
The punch was provided by Brian 'CRASH' Callahan on percussion. Brian is originally from the New York music scene and brings a tight driving rhythm to complete the sound. Brian had to quit due to a lack of free time. Brian still "sits-in" with the band on occasion.
